September is National Pain Awareness Month

With this being National Pain Awareness month, it is a time when medical professionals across the country try to educate people about how to best seek help and treat their chronic pain. It is also a time when Americans can become more aware of innovative treatments for pain issues and ask their doctor about their treatment options as well as lifestyle changes that may help. The most common types of chronic pain are:

  • back pain
  • arthritis
  • migraines
  • injuries

Living with pain can be debilitating and adversely affect day to day life for those who experience it. Chronic pain effects about 110 million people in the U.S..--more than diabetes, heart disease and cancer combined. Unrelieved pain is a serious health condition that can lead to complications such as:  

  • loss of strength and mobility
  • disturbed sleep patterns
  • anxiety and depression 
  • slow-healing wounds
  • low blood pressure

If you or a family member are dealing with pain, take time this month to ask your doctor about options to improve your quality of life. There are many different treatment options and new innovations in the field of pain management that you may not be aware of and as an alternative to opioid pain medication. Some of these include the following:
